Update on the QuickrBlog migration

As I mentioned a week or so ago, the Quickr Blog has moved onto the Domino platform, and thus far the migration has worked well.

As a number of folks have pointed out, it is pretty difficult to tell the difference, besides the odd .nsf URL (rather than .php) here and there.  For me, this is the strength of Steve Castledine's impressive DominoBlog template - you can just import your CSS and HTML templates from other blogging platforms, change some of the code for the DX tags and you are off and running.  Very neat indeed.

I have also been asked "why the change?".  To be honest, I increasingly live my work day in the Notes 8 client - my mail, calendar and contacts have always been there, of course, but now with the Symphony editors, Quickr sidebar, Sametime integration and TwitNotes, I really have no reason to ever have Notes closed.  Therefore, to also manage my blogs through the same interface makes huge sense.  This has the side effect of allowing disconnected access to the blog too, and so I can compose blog entries whilst on the train/plane etc, something that the previous blog engine didn't allow.  Of course, also hosting the blogs on my own Domino server cuts down on hosting costs too, which is always welcome! Finally, DominoBlog has the best anti-comment spam protection I've come across, so not having to deal with this menace is wonderful...  I do recommend the DominoBlog or Blogsphere templates to anyone that uses Notes day-to-day, they really are now a very fine alternative to many of the OpenSource blog engines.

Finally, archives and comments.  I am gradually copying all the old Quickr Blog archives over to the new blog - I am back as far as the beginning of December 2007, so about half way there!  Please bear with me while these entries are migrated.  I am also pulling across all the old comments too, but it does not seem possible (well not easily anyway) to date the comments in the same way as the posts, therefore the old comments will be appearing in the "recent comments" list and also in the comments feed.  This problem will disappear pretty soon, so please bear with me on that one for now...

Thanks for reading!
